Why Choose Removal?

Many factors such as the cost of tree work and even sometimes emotional ties to the tree can come into play. Most tree pruning and removal jobs are unsafe for the average do-it-yourselfer. Hire a professional! Not all mushrooms growing under trees are associated with root diseases, but fungi growing on the tree are an indication of internal rot and should be evaluated by an arborist. Some questions that should be asked are:
How healthy is the tree? Is there trunk damage? Is the tree hollow? Is it a desirable species? Is there trunk rot or a large fungus growing near the base of the tree? Is the tree leaning?

The Importance of Trimming/Pruning Trees

Tree limbs are pruned for multiple reasons, all of which result in a better looking and better performing tree. Pruning for plant health focuses on removing dead, dying and diseased branches, branches that rub together and any branch stubs so the entire tree continues to grow in a healthy way. Opening up the canopy to let light and air filter throughout the entire tree allows for increased foliage while decreasing the risk of disease. SAFETY concerns are NOT often considered, but they’re definitely a good reason to prune your trees. Trimming the trees in your yard creates a safe environment for your family and friends. Well-pruned trees are stronger and healthier. Dead branches, diseased trees and weak limbs are all a danger to people and property.

Pruning Methods

Selective pruning to reduce density of live branches. Thinning trees reduces the density at the edge of the crown, not the interior, which increases sunlight penetration and air movement.

Selective pruning to provide vertical clearance. Crown raising shortens or removes lower branches of a tree to provide clearance for buildings, signs, vehicles, pedestrians, and vistas.

Selective pruning to decrease height and/or spread. This type of pruning is done to minimize risk of failure, to reduce height or spread, for utility line clearance, to clear vegetation from buildings or other structures, or to improve the appearance of the plant. Not all tree and shrub species can tolerate reduction pruning, so the species and plant health should be considered.

Selective pruning to remove one or more of the following parts: dead, diseased, and/or broken branches. This type of pruning is done to reduce the risk of branches falling from the tree and to reduce the movement of decay, insects and diseases from dead or dying branches into the rest of the tree. Cleaning is the preferred pruning method for mature trees because it does not remove live branches unnecessarily.
